Sunset at HORDE in Camden, New Jersey. August 8th, 1998

Being a Barenaked Ladies fan for just a short time, I was upset that I missed so many opportunities to see them perform live. They have a reputation of putting on a tremendously fun and exciting show. I hear stories of the good old days when it was actually fun throwing Kraft Dinner and you could just hang out with the band after the concert. Being new to the fold I was afraid those personal moments would no longer happen thanks to the 'Ladies exploding popularity.

But I got the best HORDE tickets I could, and made arrangements to photograph the band's show. As my day started I decided, "What the hell I'll check my e-mail." While online a BNL fan/buddy contacted me and offered me his backstage pass for the show, because he couldn't make it. Totally cool.

HugoI arrived at the venue, and as much as I wanted to hang out in the parking lot with Fred and the gang, I couldn't risk missing BNL if they took the workshop stage. I headed inside and checked out the place. I have been to the Blockbuster-Sony Entertainment Center before so I knew what to expect. They had the workshop stage set up in the sideshow area south of the main stage The festival stage was set up in the north.

I went backstage to do some exploring. (Note to self: Never have your photo equipment out backstage again.) I met with Craig Finley, Fin, (of the megaphone Fin?) their tour manager. He was very helpful. He told me that the boys would not be playing the workshop stage, but that I could come back for the Meet & Greet tonight after the show. THANK GOD FOR CRAIG FINLEY. (If anyone knows him, tell him I say thanks again.)

When BNL took the main stage, the crowd began to swell. By the time everyone realized who was onstage, the place was packed.

Setlist written by Jeff Lieboff, with some additions and BIG THANKS from me.

The show was amazing. I went out to the patio after the show. I waited as a few other fans sat at the next table. Steve came out to talk to his visitors and went back in.Tyler Stewart on Drums

When he came out again, the fans cornered him and asked for autographs etc. I waited until Steve had a chance to talk to his visitors and I talked to another fan I met earlier that day (Lisa - YOU ROCK!) Eventually Steve and Lisa started talking and then we all started talking about the venues in Philly, etc. It was great. Bearnaked Joe and Steven Page

Lisa introduced me to Steve (She kept yelling "Hey, there's Bearnaked Joe" all day!) and Steve recognized my name from the BNL Newsgroup. Lisa played Ping-Pong with Jim and all was well in the world.

Jim playing Ping-Pong with a fan (not Lisa)Well, almost all. Steve also said that Kevin was better. He said he had some tough times in the past but they were hoping to have him back in a year (next summer.)

So I made plans to see at least two concerts in the fall, Washington DC and New York City. I hope you are enjoying my pictures.
